Globalization Strategy part 2: operation instruction
After you change your mind to fit the globalization trend, the following mission is to make globalization strategy for your company. everyone have different ways to reach the goal. no matter which way you want to go, I think easy management, less organization transformation and less costs are the criteria. I would like to introduce my five-steps solution.
1. position your company
it's similar with the positioning step when you make marketing strategy. but it will include more items: what kind of products or services do you want to offer in your short-term vision? what kind of support like technology development, talents and other resources do you need to produce and deliver the products or services? what's the perspective of your main shareholders or investors? who are the potential buyers for your products or services in your imagination? your executive team and related departments need a very detail brainstorm to understand your company thouroughly.
2. global match
after you get the documents of your company, you need to put your company onto the world map. you should figure out ways to collect global market information about customer, competitor, culture, legal etc. therefore, you can find out the regional market correlationship with your company.
3. focus breakdown
now you get the correlation graph of individual regional markets. you can make a sorting list accoring to some special rules. then from the list it's very clear which market you should focus firstly, then which is the next, etc. for startups, it's a straightforward things. but for mature companies or companies who are implementing some strategies, you need to combine with the 4th step.
4. integration
many companies have run for years. and some other strategies are implementing currently. it's impossible for you to quit current strategies to implement new globalization strategy. in fact, globalization strategy doesn't contradict with any business strategy. I want to emphasize that globalization strategy should be the frastructure and any other strategy are built upon it. so for most companies, you should insert and integrate globalization strategy smartly into current corporate strategies. but for startups, I suggest gobalization strategy should be the original strategy and the frastructure.
5. monitor and tweak
anything is dynamic, so is the business. today this region is your biggest market, but the day after tomorrow, which one is it? so keep monitoring the globalization trend and setup monitor index, once there are abnormal of the index, you should fine-tune the substrategy of the globalization strategy.
