Consulting 2.0

Before continuing the left parts of globalization strategy, I would like to introduce consulting 2.0 to everybody. maybe you have heard about business 2.0, web 2.0 etc, but how about consulting 2.0?  I hope it's a new concept today, but tomorrow not!  I think Consulting industry itself lacks innovation. I don't mean the knowledge innovation but the business mode innovation. it's more serious in strategy consulting or management consulting fields. So I think it's time to make some changes in these areas.

  •  from executive mentor to strategic information provider:

many famous management consulting firms are proud of being CEO's mentor. their professional services really are welcomed by many CEOs. but from my point of view, there are potential risks for both sides. in order to solve some particular business issue, this way is proved a good way. but how to last the clients relationship or their loyalty? only being the mentor is not enough. from CEO side, if CEO is used to turn to the consulting firms as long as company met problem, how can he create unique competency to compete with company's rivals? so if a CEO is smart(normally they are very smart), definitely he will do 2 things: one is to reduce the dependency on consulting firm; the other is to find more consulting firms not only rely on special one consulting firm. now the ball comes back to consulting firm. although many consulting firms claim more than 1/3 business come from old clients, how can you gurantee the uncertain future? so I think consulting firm should not only be the mentor, but give CEO real-time practices as well. consulting firm can setup a free information database for every client. consulting firm will routinely update the database and all the information in the database are strategic information. that means CEO can directly use the information to make decision. therefore, CEO can use the skills that mentor taught him on particular business cases to handle these information. I believe this will make CEO perform uniquely with his rivals. as a result, CEOs are willing to buy your services.

  •  integrate open wisdom into self unique comepetency:
why company ask consulting firm for services? I think an important reason is that consulting firm is 3rd party and consultants can analyze the problem from different angles. so here comes the potential problems if a consulting firm has been an long-term partner for one company. the consulting firm will slowly lose its independency and unique viewsight. in addition, globalization makes company executives need wider horizon and globalized information. if consulting firm can't statisfy the new demands, the partnership can't last any more. so consulting firm should be globalized too to fit its clients' steps. for international consulting firms like Mckinsey, BCG etc, it's not a big problem. but for smaller consulting firms, it's really a big challenge. thanks to the globalization, I have solutions for these consulting firms. one of the solutions is to utilize global wisdom(I call it wisdom globalization). via the web technology, consulting firms can easily connect with global professional freelancers. thus, a small consulting firm can act as a big firm. so the key step is how to integrate global wisdom into self unique competency to realize 1+1+…+1>>>n.
until now, I think readers should have some concepts on the so called Consulting 2.0. I believe it will be the product of business globalization and user generating content(UGC). and I believe consulting industry will be like software industry—-open source!

welcome everyone discuss this with me!
